Running generates sound within the body,
the sound of a runners thoughts become louder,
the city becomes louder.
When women run,
the politics of the city un
fold,
revealing inequalities which remain.
Taking Space sits within a series of Transformative Spaces, a curation led by Sarah Ackland.
This soundscape is the third instalment, with two accompanying pieces currently on show alongside How We Live Now at the Newcastle Contemporary Art Gallery. The soundscape is activated through the performance of Taking Space, a women led run from the gallery through the arches on Thursday 7th July, 2022. Where women will run together in the city of Newcastle as an act of Taking Space; a moment to address inequality on the streets.
The pieces look to address an increasingly unequal planet, heal spaces of trauma and capture moments of transformation.
This instalment is part of Space for Sound - The Arches Sound Project, Institute for Creative Arts Practice, Newcastle.
